Girls Room Inspiration Board Compliments of Ikea!

My daughter's room has been a thorn in my side for some time now.
I'm not even sure where to begin other than to say its all about a meeting of the minds on this one.
I'll be posting before pics next week but for now, here is an inspiration board I completed working towards it!
I am {slightly} infatuated with IKEA. Just {slightly}.

The beginning of our front hallway reno!

Lovely Serving Trays

I LOVE a good tray. I am a huge, out of this world, fan. They are so versatile to use and make for a great conversation piece.
I have a tray that I keep on my kitchen table that I fill with my favourite pieces to decorate with. The tray was made by my uncle, who passed away in his earlier years of life by a pretty tragic incident. I keep it pretty close to me and hold it dear to my heart.
Have you ever thought about making your own tray? You could go shopping, pick out your favourite tray, only to find, you may have to spend quite a bit of money. You don't need to do that. For a few dollars, you can turn your basic items into a beautiful tray.
This tray is from LemonTree Creations. I love this tray because it takes the simpliest items as seperate pieces and turns them into something that can be used for everyday use and it absolutely lovely.
LemonTree Creations offers up step by step details on how to make your own beautiful tray.
This glass tray is from The Happy Housewife! Using a wood tray and glass tiles! Love this one! Step by step tutorial available too!

Lets talk Bookcases!

The great thing about bookcases is they can be used for so many different purposes. Alot of times, we get caught up in a bookcase used for books, and books only. The great thing about bookcases is they offer so much flexibility to display your favourites books and heirlooms.
A few design rules to keep in mind with bookcases!
Firstly, don't be afraid to live outside the box and display other items along with your books!
Fall decor shelving by Workman Family. I love the colour of the bookcase and the different items on the shelves.
Simple Details Are The Difference finished off a great bookcase. Pam completely nailed the balance between pattern, depth and lines.
Bring dimension to a shelf in your bookcase.
Adding a mirror or picture to the wall within the bookcase gives the shelf depth and character.
Basic rules when adding a mirror or picture.
Thin shelving, Pick a bulky frame. Thick chelving. Choose a narrow frame. Patterned backing on the wall of the bookcase. Choose a frame with no pattern or raised design. Plain back wall. Choose a mirror or picture with alot of busy lines and curves.
